"It's like a beautiful woman on a plate" - Elder Acosta

This week was really good! We had members at basically every lesson!

Monday: It was awesome! We had 3 members presents! One of them was a
doorstep new investigator lesson. We had President Allred with us. He
is a former Stake, Mission, and MTC president. He is now in the temple
presidency. So he knows his stuff but it was really good! We had a
lesson with Saieda Benitez and her sister from out of town named
Guadalupe. We talked about the Plan of Salvation. Then we met Jorge
and Osmar. They are two young guys from Mexico up here working.

Juan Rodriguez: We met with him on Monday night too. It was really
nice because President Allred kind of threw down and told him what he
needed to do. It was kind of fun. He took it really well and it was
what he needed to hear.

Jose Rodriguez: Great lesson on Tuesday. We had David Hielo with us
and we read from Alma 32 and talked about faith. We have had some
trouble getting frequent lessons with them but we were finally able to
have Rubi in a lesson. Now we just need frequent lessons with the rest
of the family involved.

Wednesday: We had David with us for the whole day. It was pretty good.
We had district meeting, then we went tracting at like 2pm. It was hot
and no one answered! Then we had lunch/dinner at Pizza Hut. After we
had some good lessons!

Artisema: We taught her about repentance. It went well. She seemed
distant in the lesson however. She is doing well but needs to be
reading and praying to receive her answer. We will focus on that more.

Anel & Alfonso: They are doing awesome! We talked with them about
baptism and the Holy Ghost. It was great because we were able to
explain baptism clearly and answer all their questions!

Sickness: I woke up with a sore throat on Wednesday but then from
Wednesday night to Saturday morning it was like a sinus infection.
Then I received a blessing. And shortly after it moved down to my
chest and throat. So now I have a bunch of chest congestion and a bad
cough. But I am getting better!

Sunday Dinner: We had dinner with a member of the branch and she is
from Ecuador! Elder Acosta is also from Ecuador so he was so happy to
eat traditional Ecuadorian food. We had fish, a ton of rice, a
guacamole chunky salsa thing that was super good, fried plantains, and
a dish called Guatita. Guatita is made with tripe, potatoes, and a
peanut-flavored broth. The broth is more like watered down peanut
butter but still thick, just super creamy and gravy like. It was
pretty good. Tripe is very interesting though... When describing it,
Elder Acosta loves this dish and said, "It's like a beautiful woman on
a plate." Mani

Sunday Meetings: President Whetten, our branch president, has a
cousin. This cousin is a man named Carl Pratt. He has served for the
church for many years and has spoken in General Conference. He was
also the MTC president in Mexico City while I was there. They couldn't
take pictures with missionaries because there were 1000 of us there.
But when he comes to the little Winchester Branch to speak, you can
get a picture with him after the meeting.

I know that God lives. I know this is His work. I am eternally
grateful for the small part that I have been able to have as a
full-time, consecrated missionary to push this work along. I will
continue in this great work but not in the same capacity. We are all
called to this great work to unite the family, especially the human
family in the gospel of Jesus Christ through sacred ordinances. "shall
we not go on in so great a cause? Go forward and not backward.
Courage, brethren; and on, on to the victory! Let your hearts rejoice,
and be exceedingly glad." (D&C 128:22).

Love,
Elder Dallin Baker
